The weather outside’s not frightful (yet), but now is the perfect time to choose your show for the upcoming holiday season.
One of our favorites is the perennial Christmas classic, MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET, THE MUSICAL – based on the beloved Academy Award-winning 1947 film. This charming tuner previously titled, “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas,” has been reinvigorated with a fresh new look and name, while retaining the same heart-warming feel of the original piece.
Meredith Willson, (acclaimed writer, composer, and lyricist of THE MUSIC MAN) brings this film to the stage, telling the the story of Kris Kringle, a white-bearded gentleman who claims to be the real Santa Claus. As the musical progresses, he brings about a genuine “Miracle on 34th Street,” by spreading a wave of love throughout New York City, fostering camaraderie between Macy’s and Gimbel’s Department Stores, and convincing a divorced, cynical single mother; her somber daughter (not to mention the entire State of New York) that Santa Claus is no myth.
MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET, THE MUSICAL stays faithful to the heart of that classic movie, while introducing a touching score that includes such hits as “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas” and “Here’s Love”.

It is the one movie we watch together as a family every year before Christmas. It is a family tradition. We would never miss it.
I am pleased the name has been changed back to the original title (even though elsewhere on the internet, claims were the title was becoming “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”).
I do have a small correction: the photo above billed as ‘A still shot from the classic film “Miracle on 34th Street”‘ is clearly not a photo of Gwenn, Payne, O’Hara and Wood from the original film. (Just look…) It is however a still from the 20th Century Fox Hour adaptation of “Miracle” that aired (according to IMDB) December 14, 1955. It starred Thomas Mitchell, McDonald Carey, Teresa Wright, and Sandy Descher as little Susan Walker.
There were additional TV versions in 1959 and in the 70′s before the feature film revision in the 90′s.
