50th Year of THE FANTASTICKS kickoff in Times Square
The original production of THE FANTASTICKS opened on May 3, 1960 at the Sullivan Street Playhouse – a small theatre in New York’s Greenwich Village. The musical tradition created by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt continues to this day. THE FANTASTICKS is now running strong at the Snapple Theatre and is set to begin it’s 50th year.
To celebrate, on May 3, 2009, alumni from 50 years of the Off-Broadway production joined current cast members to sing “Try to Remember” on the Red Steps of the TKTS booth in Times Square, as the start of a 2-day celebration of the musical’s longevity.
In addition to its near constant presence Off-Broadway, THE FANTASTICKS has been performed in every state and nearly every corner of the world, and continues to be performed by theatre groups, large and small. From us here at The Marquee, we wish THE FANTASTICKS a very, very, happy 50th year.
As a reminder, MTI has a very special discount to see THE FANTASTICKS at the Snapple Theatre. And visit MTI’s THE FANTASTICKS page for more on obtaining performance rights for this classic musical.
