The final round of the 2012 Scripps National Spelling Bee airs tonight, May 31st, at 8pm on ESPN. Six-year-old contestant Lori Anne Madison has made history by becoming the youngest person to qualify for the Bee. Unfortunately, Lori Anne misspelled the word ‘ingluvies’ during semifinals and did not qualify for the final round.
To any musical theater lover who is familiar with THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, Lori Anne’s story seems familiar: who else is a driven individual who spends their free time studying obscure words? Who else was the youngest contestant of their Spelling Bee competition, but failed to win first prize? Why, Logainne Schwarzandsrubeniere, of course!
Although both Lori Anne and Logainne were unsuccessful in their respective Spelling Bee events, both have vowed not to give up. Lori Anne has spoken on record as saying she is “really excited to go to next year’s bee.”
If you would like to play a part in telling Logainne’s story through song and dance, and the stories of her fellow competitors, THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE is available through Music Theatre International for licensing.
